For the amount of miles per year and weight of the work the truck will do, no I 
probably not looking for a diesel. Probably gasser, possibly even a v6.

I've finally managed to get Angie driving the 190D full time so the Ranger is 
only getting a few hundred miles a month. We still need a 4wd of some kind for 
hauling wood and snowmobiles and trips to camp and whatnot and while a pickup 
isn't required a "real SUV" is, that is something with real offroad prowess, 
not a soft-roader like a Jeep Compass...

So new? The 6.5 turbo diesel was only available until 2000.

Find a 6.5 with a NV4500 manual and you get a good car and diesel
goodness too.  

Or get a Cummins - but unless you do your own engine swap that
means a Dodge.

You are aiming at a diesel - right?
