At some level (individual, company, country, world), the value of what you produce must exceed the value of what you consume. That's Economics 000. In even more simple terms, you can't consume something until someone has produced it. The concept that pay should be based on an employees' need vs value of their work performed is nonsense. All efforts to artificially increase (aka inflate) wages by fiat do exactly that: stoke the inflationary spiral. When the smoke clears everything just costs more, from wages to food; and nothing has changed.
Having observed several of the "workers" at our local Walmart, they (but not others) are overpaid if they are getting minimum wage.
