I don't think Marie had distain for people, remember she didn't say "let them eat cake" she in fact said brioche which is a kind of sweet bread quite different than cake.
She wasn't disdainful she was out of touch, she'd never been hungry and never had to work. She had no clue there were people who didn't have enough to eat.
