That's true, but we were talking about how much power the transmission
can take.

Transmissions are usually rated by torque, not power. Although I can see where heat absorption of an auto trans might be more related to power than to torque.

Manual transmission ratings depend on impulse, where a tranny might be rated for twice as much torque with an 8 cylinder engine as with a 4 cylinder. I'm not sure if diesel engine torque capacity is less than gas engine.
