actually, what happened with the '85 300Ds was that MBZ did (at least) 2 separate "Campaigns" where they replaced the Trap Oxidizers with something else; the last one i'm familiar with replaces it with a W126-numbered part that seems to be nothing other than a Catalytic Convertor. the campaigns were at no cost to the owners; it might be worth checking to see if they're still in effect, as the last one i took advantage of was already ~10 years ago.

And you though we were all full of beans when we (several list members)
said to do away with the T/O.  MBUSA did away with them in a recall/TSB.
Why keep it?
