Make sure your expectations are low if you give the vehicle to a charity. Tax laws have tightened up significantly in this area. My local NPR station takes anything and everything as far as vehicles, boats, etc. When I was there last year I was talking to one of their fundraising people about it (I used to volunteer there reading books for the blind) and they told me they use a service to dispose of the donations. If I understood it correctly, and Mitch may weigh in here, you get nothing up front and then when the service sells the vehicle you get credit for the actual selling price.
He said they had a few members who donated nice older cars that brought very little, and the donors were not happy about it. I’m sure other charitable organizations are doing the same.
