I’m not going to challenge this, but I’ve seen the “I have a standing offer of $xxxx for this, so if you don’t offer me more I have a plan B" so many times it’s become tiresome.
I was trying to buy an S420 off a guy in Johnson City, TN a few months ago and he kept pulling this line. The standing offer kept getting smaller and smaller. He also had someone who would trade him a late model Subaru for it, too, but that never seemed to materialize. He sold it nearly two months later, but I don’t know the selling price, nor do I care. I made him a fair offer and he just wanted to jerk me around with all of his offers and trades that never happened.
