First of all, lets be sure we are talking about the same thing. This is a wagon, right? 300TD is a wagon with hydraulic rear suspension. Many people call a 300 turboodiesel a 300TD, but it is a 300D, same as is NA variant.

You say the front is high, but the last sentence says the rear is low. Please clarify the model, and if it has the hydraulic pump on the engine, and a hydraulic reservoir under the hood.

Then we can proceed.

I have something going on with my 82 300TD (144 kmiles) the front end is
riding up much higher than it used to. There was always a slight alignment
problem where one of the front tires would wear out prematurely on the
outer edge. I had the car recently aligned and it seems to ride even
higher than before the alignment. The mechanic said that it was the rear
springs that was making the front end ride higher but I have read that
these rarely wear out on these Mercedes. New shocks all around have about
30 kmi on them.

I had the car sitting for a year with a lot of stuff in the trunk. I have
been reading about this condition and it is not really clear what it may
be. Springs? Bad front shocks? differential mount worn out? bad alignment?

It looks like I have the trunk filled with cinder blocks even though it is
empty.

any insight would be appreciated.
