Unless it was super cold you should have reasonable heat in 15 minutes. I think this condemns the thermostat. To be sure take it for a longer/harder run this afternoon, if you can stand the cold :) if it still doesn't come up to temp I'd say thermostat. I ran without a thermostat in the winter one year with my '88 GMC, heat got to just barely a breath of warmth, enough to maybe defog (but not defrost) the windshield. I didn't last long before I put a tstat in which on that truck (2.6l v6) was really easy. -Curt From: Donald Snook via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2015 10:23 AM Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT 1992 Ford F-150 I drove the truck to work today mainly because I hadn't started or driven it in a month. It started right up! I drove about 10 minutes (had to stop for power steering fluid) and drove another 5 or so minutes to my office. The temp gauge never made it to the middle, only about 1/3 up. When I got to the office, I checked the heater hoses and they were "warmish" NOT hot. The upper radiator hose was also warmish, not hot. The lower radiator hose was about the same (maybe a little cooler).
The various positions of the heater work -- meaning, when I changed it to defrost the air flow moved to defrost, on vent it switched to vent and it switched to the floor when I changed it to floor. BUT, the air never get warm. I don't know if I didn't drive it long enough to get warmed up or if the thermostat is bad. I also found something that wasn't hooked up to anything. I'll try to send a picture attached. This is located near the firewall close to master cylinder. Sorry, it’s a lousy phone pic. Find the heater hoses where they go through the firewall and find out if they get hot. Might also see if the radiator hose coming out of the thermostat gets hot. If those two are no then start with a thermostat which should be pretty easy.If those two are yes then look for something under the dash From: Donald Snook via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2015 11:50 AM Subject: [MBZ] OT 1992 Ford F-150 I know a few folks on here have older Ford Pickups or had them previously. So, here is a question for them. I have a 1992 Ford F-150. I bought it last summer because my wife and I were going to a lot of estate sales and it seemed like we were constantly needing a truck. It's a decent truck with 144,000 miles. The body is straight and rust free. It needs a few things, but for the most part, it will just be used occasionally for hauling or moving stuff. BUT, it has NO heat. The fan comes on, but never gets warm. I checked the coolant and it is full. I suppose I could start with a thermostat. It seems like I remember something on the blend doors (I may be using the wrong term) on some old fords. Is that an issue on these? What else could it be? The a/c also doesn't work. When it was hot, I turned the a/c on and it didn't cool. I checked and the clutch wasn't turning on the compressor. So, I gave it a tap and the clutch started turning. But, it never cooled. I filled it with 134. But, never did get cool. The a/c is obviously a non-issue for a while. But, NO heat is a little rough this time of year. Donald H.
