Similar experience. The video card in my noisy HP8510w laptop died. When I replaced that card, I also replaced all the heat-sink grease and cleaned the accumulated dust and hair out of the heat-sink radiator. The difference was amazing. It is almost silent and the internal temps are moderate. This, by the way, is a recertified, "off lease" machine had a lot of use before I got it several years back.
