Couple I purchased my home from in PNW did that. Lived in HI from nov. to April. I thought that quite extravagant until I got the first winter's electric bill. They probably got that going in the 1970's and leased out their island home for summer tourist season. The winter I upgraded to gas, the bills were down by 60%. Switched out furnace, stove and water heater. Water bill was less and electric was nominal.
