Actually, the Tucson shooting of Giffords and the other victims did happen in a "gun free zone" also..
Apparently, criminals intent of violence and murder don't bother to read the signs. Some time back, I read a rather in-depth and factual piece on the Colorado theater mass murder which listed the shooter as having broken 57 gun laws before arriving at the theater to commit mass murder. All those laws did not deter this individual from breaking them. Also, there is now reasonable evidence which demonstrates the shooter selected the particular theater because it did not allow patrons who had concealed carry permits to have their legally owned and carried weapons inside the theater. Imagine that.. It gives rise to the question, would less people have been harmed if someone had the means to protect themselves and the lives of others.
