Went to look at this car this morning:

I had made some inquiries about it through an alias account last night, and
thought it had some potential. The car was pretty decent, in good general
condition, with some gaps in the history but a close inspection yielded some
indications that it had been cared for during that time and whoever was
maintaining it wasn't reporting to CarFax, which is not unusual. Paint gauge
did not reveal any damage in the rear despite there being an accident report in
the CarFax.

Drove well, only issue I could find was the ortho seats didn't work and a
couple of the closing assist functions weren't working, either. This is an
indication of leaks in the systems as the pumps on these cars are intelligent
in the sense that if a circuit won't hold vacuum or pressure after a shot time
it lock out that circuit, allowing the remaining circuits to continue operating.

So for grins I offered them $4800 through my alias account last night - the
"out the door" price. I got a response this morning after I got home that they
would accept my $4800 offer, along with their $799 "doc fee" and taxes and
title.

Yeah, right.

I responded that when I said "out the door" I meant everything except tax and
title. Something tells me they're not going to respond.

The sales guy I worked with this morning was pretty laid back and low key.
He's retired and is essentially just working to get out of the house. He never
even tried to close the deal - I told him I had a couple other cars to look at
and I would let him know. He said the car had been there for two weeks and
they haven't had anyone look at it yet (it's a Toyota dealership.) He figures
it's going to the auction soon - it's a trade they took a few weeks ago. I
can't imagine they'll get $4800 at the auction.

Oy.
