With Car Quest getting acquired by Advance they stopped carrying the Car Quest synthetic oil I had been using that carried the VW spec. I was at Autozone the other day and they had Turbo Diesel Truck on sale for $25/gal so I grabbed a gallon of that. I'd used the Car Quest stuff because it was $24/gal...
The Golf requires fancy oil to keep the cam from spinning off. The only stuff at FLAPs is a Valvoline stuff they want $8/qt for. My VW guy put in 5w30 and the car has been consuming a quart in around 4,000 miles. Since I put in the 5w40 Valvoline stuff it seems to be slowing down.
