I put an SSD in my imac when I regutted it, I was going to put the OS on it then make it see everything on the 4TB HDD but it was acting kinda funky (which since resolve for reasons not clear) and it looked a little confusing on how to do that, so I didn't. I guess at some point I could yet do it but it is a lot faster with the new 4TB spinning drive.

I am considering buying an external USB or Firewire drive for my macbook 8.1 running 10.6.8 to preserve the ability to run old software. (Rosetta)

I'd consider a hard drive or a SSD

I want to install 10.11 and then evaluate email software. I currently have email archived on this machine from 2009 on. 2000 to 2009 is archived in eudora on a winders 2003 server.

I am currently using under 140 GBof hard drive space

SSD prices:
120GB, OWC SSD $128.75, USB 3.0 / FireWire 800

120GB, OWC SSD, $89.75, USB 3.0

240GB OWC SSD $169.99, USB 3.0 / FireWire 800

240GB, OWC SSD, $129.75, USB 3.0

Spinning hard drives, are of course cheaper, and come with their own strengths and weakness.

For this use, would the firewire be worth the price?

For this use, the 120GB SSD would be enough, but if I spring for the 240GB, then it would be adequate for use as the main drive in this or a future laptop.

What would y'all do?

TIA
