Way back in the olden days when I learned gun safety, I was taught that I should be accountable for every squeeze of the trigger--no excuses. There was poor judgement by both dolts, but the shooter ultimately owns the liability. I'm enjoying the schadenfreude, primarily cuz he's a major league @sshole...oh, and my condolences to the shootee too.
