Thanks, Rich & Curley, I notice there are lotsa lithium CR2025's FS on amazon.com; I'll have some en route tomorrow. Another possibility is that she didn't press the fob just right, but she said she heard the beep. Maybe, she didn't try the door before it locked again. We'll see what it does tomorrow.

The key is not lobotomized if you remove its power source.

I believe that to be correct. At least the dogde ones worked that way. Stuff stored on an EEPROM, so it does not lose its mind if the battery is taken out. (unlike the car)

Battery change instructions are in da book, too, but there's no comment about loosing "program" or resetting. So, one can just change battery, and the fob's ready to go?
I'll see what the videos/googs have to say, too.

You can change the battery easy enough. On the 2012 ML it is quite easy, google for a youtube showing how to do yours. As I recall it involved inserting the "emergency" key into a slot and then the battery holder popped out. Or something like that, i forget exactly (that's what the googs are for).

Oh, BTW, yes, I know - it's a POS, and y'all will give me $500 for it, maybe.

When SWMBO went back to the car after Dr. appointment this afternoon, her key fob would not unlock the car. She called me; I called friend, who took me out to the car. 'Got to the car, unlocked it, started it and drove it home using my fob. As we got out of the car at home, I tried SWMBO's fob 3 times locking and unlocking, and it worked fine. What do y'all think? Dying fob battery? Is this a dealer-only item?
