Isn't it because single stage is so much harder to do because with a base and 
clear, you don't have to do as good a job with the base.  The clear does all 
the work.  I'm not suggesting this is a good thing, but lower quality shops 
don't want to put the work into a single stage.

I have not heard that but then again I don't deal with body shops too often. I 
find it very hard to believe nobody does single stage anymore. You probably 
need to look for another body shop.
