I have somehow managed to screw up my work email. We gmail hosts our company email. Most people now days just log into gmail and read mail online. I am old fashioned and have it all come into outlook where I have all emails back even before we went to gmail. So the way it has been working apparently is I had outlook setup as pop and my phone was setup imap. When messages are downloaded it marks three read in gmail but leaves them. I am used to my okie server that leaves them on the server but when downloaded on my computer at home it will then remove from server. So problem started when I tried to look into why my iPhone was filled up with email. I could have sworn there used to be a setting in it that limited the number of messages to something like 1000, or 7 days or something like that then they fell off the phone. I could not find such a setting so I mass deleted all the read emails off my phone. This set something in motion somehow that my laptop is now downloaded emails from ba ck to 2011 in batches of 4-500, then click send and receive and another 4-500 come in. They are duplicates of what is already downloaded into outlook.
So I want to be able to check email while on the go from my phone, but I want them to be able to be downloaded on my laptop, but I don't want them sitting on my phone forever eating up space, but if I delete them off my phone I don't what them to delete them off gmail so they can't download to my laptop. There is a setting i gmail that says when a message is downloaded via pop you can set it to mark it as read, leave it in inbox, move it to archive, or delete it from server. If I was downloaded in from computer it could delete from server, but I don't want it to delete from server from my phone. Maybe if I have it pop on computer but still imap from phone it will leave them, but if I set it to delete via pop when I download them on computer they will delete from gmail and my phone? I guess I am trying to have a mix of old and new tech to manage emails.
