There is nothing specialized about the system on this car that would require unique or unusual equipment. Any come tent AC shop can work on it if they are willing.
If this is for your SDL then there is no evaporator cutoff switch as I previously described - that would be present in your W123 or a Gen I W126. As others have suggested, I'm betting your KLIMA relay is faulty, as this would be a pretty typical failure for a car of this vintage. There are some readily available very simple diagnostic procedures to test for a faulty KLIMA that require nothing more than a DC voltmeter.
