So I got the new laptop from Fred which works very nicely. Thank
you Fred.
However I have some questions about win10. I seem to remember
that there was a way to keep it from updating all the time. I
tried getting on line with a USB phone modem and couldn't do
anything because the darn system took all the bandwidth to do
some kind of updating or communications of some sort. So after
about 5 frustrating minutes of being told that the internet is
not available or that google or Mozilla could not be found even
though the first two little pictures on Google chrome had started
to load, I gave up and pulled the phone line. The modem had been
working away with both LEDs blinking away so it was doing
something. The communications monitor list of the security showed
a bunch of updates and other stuff that either worked or after I
pulled the plug showed a fail.
The other little problem I have a question about is does anyone
know why a modem would cause all the other phones in the house to
ring in a continuous tone as long as it is trying to connect.
This happened with the internal modem but not with the external
usb connected modem. The only thing I can figure there is a bad
driver or possibly a bad modem. Not a problem but a puzzle that
has me wondering.
