NPR made an interesting point yesterday that its "pay me now or pay me later".  
Bidding for seats went up to $800 when United closed "negotiations" and decided 
to yank this guy.
United is going to end up paying the guy a bunch more and probably pay the FAA 
too not to mention how they're being skewered in the press. They should have 
offered more for the seat in the first place, it would have ended up being 
cheaper.
I've never seen an airline raise their offer, I didn't realize it was an 
option, I thought the crappy $200 offer was all they would do...

changed their mind and wanted it back for their own use?
