That sounds a lot like the week I bought my first (and last) new car.
What is it with mental defectives like us and our new acquisitions?

When I was 25, I bought a new fuel injected 2.2L Plymouth Horizon.
Not much to look at, but it weighed 2100lb and had more "torks" than any other
non-turbocharged hatchback. (the turbocharged Shelby GLH-S version of my
chassis was out of this world for its day, I had the same engine minus the
turbo, and the same 3.56:1 gearbox, I have no idea why they didn't put the 2.78
in mine like the did the earlier carbureted cars)

A couple days after buying the car, I'm rolling down Main Street in Lansing,
street all to myself. It's 4 lanes wide, I'm in the left lane which will become
a left turn lane at Grand Avenue. As I'm waiting at the light a block before
Grand, a RX-7 comes up behind me and moves over into the next lane. First
generation, 12A engine. (rough equivalent of 190e 2.3 8 valve, the 13B RX-7
GSL-SE would hold with a 2.3-16v until 60 or so, the events of the next few
seconds might have been different if he'd had one of those)

When the light turned, I gave it more gas than I normally would, expecting the
Mazda to try to change lanes in front of me and hit the brakes to turn onto
Grand. When I heard the squealing tires from the next lane I dropped it to the
floor. His tire smoking launch almost got his door up to my front bumper before
my engine hit the power band. After that I just modulated the throttle to keep
even with his front fender as he wound out that little Wankel.

When we hit Grand, I braked as late as possible and turned left.
He overshot the corner, backed up and turned left. Went by me about 60mph, his
passenger flipping me the bird with his arm extended fully out the window.

Mitch.
