It's this 99 E300 dizzel I bought for $500. I bought some parts for it,
and a new wheel tire, so I'm up to maybe $600 or a bit more now. It's
throwing some codes that suggest EGR and glow plug(s), which isn't such
a big deal. It starts and runs a bit rough but I think it would be
easily sortable. Decent shape otherwise though it has been salvaged or
wrecked like 3 times. I'm thinking this car and a AAA membership and
you'd be OK, once it gets sorted on the codes issues.

Kaleb has a $500 car to sell? What is it? Is it up for a 130 mile commute

There ya go.
Sell the $500 606 turbo beater to Snook.
Those things get 30mpg at 80mph, don't they?
Mitch.

That's the one I bought from the estate sale, $1300. Haven't done anything
with it yet, sitting in the barn, I start it occasionally and it lights right
off. I drove it before I got it and the brakes were grinding and grabby but
worked, car ran very well except the throttle return spring is missing or
broken or something (which is interesting, I pulled one off the 79 300TD and
the 78 300CD has a different throttle linkage arrangement so it doesn;t seem to
be the same). I haven't even looked at it much yet due to some other issues.
The story is this woman owned it since like 1981 or so, it was her baby, She
died a coupla years ago, and the long-time BF would start it occasionally and
move it around the driveway and wash it, but she never let him drive it when
she was alive, so he never drove it after she couldn't drive it or after she
died. She kept it up in good shape, it was sitting under a carport so out of
the weather mostly. She had it repainted at some point after a storm knocked
down some branches or something and dinged it up a bit. It is white with black
leather interior, very minor damage to drivers seat, rest of interior looks
really nice. Some rust starting to show up under the side trim, you can see
where it is starting to discolor a bit, so there's that. Trunk seemed to be
leaking, I think probably the rear window seal so maybe some caulk would fix
that.
AC ran down, probably just needs a charge unless the seals are bad. Belt is
off but compressor seemed to spin so I don't know. Would probably need a set of
tires if you were going to drive it far or fast but they had good tread, just
likely old.
It's a pretty nice car actually, very clean and looks good from 20ft and
everything is there and straight. Runs, drives. I was thinking to BAT it
unless someone wants it.
Bring your trailer and haul it and the E$500 dizzel home, we could work
something out.

There's a nice 78 300CD sitting here I could let go for cheapcheap, in pretty
decent shape. Starts right up, runs well. Needs some brake sorting from
sitting, probably at least rotors and pads, maybe calipers, but that is no big
deal. Fly to CHS and drive it home.

WOW That 300SDL is nice. But 405K miles? Wow. I don't think that would get
better than 25 mpg. Right? It is nice.
I am lusting in my heart for the Green 240D. My trip is 65 miles and I'm
guessing it might take 15 to get up to 80MPH. Or will one these actually go
that fast? It would get great mileage!
The brown/maroon 83 300D looks great. But, I'm not sure its going to get 28-20
mpg at 80 mph.
