I removed the thermostat and reinstalled with the gasket but no thermostat

The cooling system in my old 300TD had much brown sludge. I had a hose
nozzle that neatly fit inside the heater hoses so I used it to flush the
heater core and the engine just by running (lots of) tap water through the
heater and the block. That seemed to do the job.
