Rick,
In addition to what others have written (below), it also is dependent on the
quality/condition of the barrels of the two guns and the quality differences in
the bullets that you are using in each.

Addison (who shoots both)

Subject: [MBZ] OT Revolver vs. Semi-Auto

Interesting observation and wondering if my experiences are exclusive. When I
shoot with a revolver I have a very tight pattern, good aim, etc. Using a semi
auto pistol, I do okay, but not nearly as tight a grouping as with revolvers.
Comments?

Different triggers? Single action on a revolver usually gives a pretty decent
trigger pull.
When Angie and I took our safety class they wouldn't let us shoot revolvers
single action, said it wasn't safe to put the hammer back down...
I don't have a ton of revolver experience but I've got a Hi-Standard .22
semi-auto I've put thousands of rounds through. Its got a nice trigger and
shoots way better than I can.

Shot placement is a function of Grip, and Trigger finger position.

I'll take bets the revolver you use fits your grip better, and the semi
auto, you have not focused on "proper grip"..
