See whats funny is one day the antilock light came on. Now when I left the car with my mechanic, the relay was change due to suspicion stemming from the car running so rough, etc. So the relay is changed but the antilock light will still come on every now and then. It lights up and goes out fine on startup, but randomly during the course of my drive the light will come on. Once the car is turned off and restarted, the light goes out again. The car seems to be running a lot better now that the relay was changed, but occasionally the antilock light still comes on. What could be the problem besides the relay? The alternator? Tarek, I haven't heard of this problem on the 87s but later models have had a very large number of brake switch failures. My 98 Ml is also displaying this problem. This is the dual function switch that tells the brake lights to come on when you step on the pedal, but also sends a signal to the ABS controller. Also, check the brake fluid level very carefully, knowing that there are two separate chambers in the reservoir. I always bump the fender with my hip to SEE the fluid levels move, the dirt line in the reservoirs can be very convincing. Any problem with the braking system will turn on the ABS light and lock out the ABS function. That's the easy stuff. Magnetic particles clinging to the magnets on the front wheel speed sensors can bridge the gap and cause ABS alarms. The rear sensor is built into the differential and should not be a problem.
