I was considering the target version of the American Rimfire, but then SWMBO said that she wanted to shoot it also, so I went with the Compact. Surprisingly, both the compact and the target have 18" barrels, I don't regret it at all - it's a sweet rifle. I don't get the difference between plinking and target - you want to hit what you aim at . . .
