The key is telling the dealership you smell gas.... but I'd confirm
w/MBUSA if your VIN is included in the settlement.

The 05 e320 I just picked up yesterday and getting ready to start driving home
had the fuel tank replaced 3 times by the PO. It seems it’s going to be ready
for a 4th soon. It will be going in for the SBC when it gets back.

Hi Mitch,
Just got a call from our local dealer - he said the fuel tank and all
components would be replaced under warranty (Yippee!) and the Counterbalance
shaft was the cause of the CEL as expected. I told him I'd drive it as long as
I could and he enthusiastically agreed that was the right thing to do. I do
need a battery which they would be happy to sell but I told him to charge that
one and I'd drive it home.
So we can drive it or sell it. It looks much better than it did a month ago
when I feared it would be scrap. Whoda thunk MB would extend the warranty by
20 years? Man, they must have had a lot of tank issues to extend the warranty
by so long ;-) Finally something went right.
Good luck with your issues.

Hi Mitch -
I'll be happy to copy and email you the letter I rec'd from MBUSA if you wish?
Also included with the letter was a sticker they wanted added to the warranty
booklet.
Let me know how I can help....

It sounded like the warranty covers specific VINs and I heard nothing
about CDIs - all the warranties MB mentioned were for gas vehicles.
What problems are common on the 2003-2009-ish CDI's? We were
considering one but they wouldn't move on the price. But it drove great...
The biggest problem I remember is the brake servo. If that now has a warranty
until 2028+, then that would be great.
Mitch.
