Oh I caught that, my comment was gratuitously tangential, or tangentially gratuitous, wunnathem.

Not Benz, VW. Look different. Don't like the Toyota diesels. Checked into them a few years ago thinking to put one in the '03 that we have but from what I've read they don't get very good mileage.

Those Benz pickups get a lot of derision. They seems to be a tarted-up Asian truck of some sort that DBAG decided to “design.” Get one of those Toyota diesels the rest of the world gets and it will last forever. Mount a .50 in the back like them ME boys and you’re good for any neighborhood adventures.

Gerry,
A few years ago I was looking int bringing in one of the new, at that time, VW diesel pickups. They look kind of like a Nissan or Toyota Tacoma.

If I remember right at that time you  could bring in pretty much whatever as long as it's 25 years old or more. Some people said that some importers might be able to do something with some kind of paper work or bringing it in through Canada but it costs a bit, over 2000-5000.

The last option I found was that with a special permit you could bring one in for either 1 or 2 years but then had to take it back and possibly go through the whole thing again but that also entailed that little 4 figure fee. EPA wants their bribe you know.

I don't remember any more if that last option also required you to be a foreign national working here with permit.

Things may have changed so doing a google search may give more up to date info.

Daughter and husband are selling their 2007 GL320 cdi which has a new factory engine (a dealers "mechanic" destroyed the original). Car  has 250K miles; new engine has 7K miles. Does anyone know where to get a good estimate of what a near perfect condition GL320cdi is selling for? Also, they are undecided about buying a new Acura SUV or a new Audi SUV, with their main considerations being gas mileage and repair frequency. They might also consider a different SUV if the seats fold down and make a long smooth bed where their two dogs can sleep on their doggy beds on long journeys, and because they haul supplies for their business from a another city every week.
Thanks,
Gerry
PS: What they would "really" like to have is a new Mercedes SUV diesel.
Can they be bought in Germany and shipped over here as grey market?
