As I understand it doing head gaskets proactively on these is a good idea. I
talked to a guy that owns a small Subaru shop that sells cars and he does head
gaskets on every car he gets in. He says they're quick and "easy"...

They do have head gasket issues, but I don't know the years affected off hand.
