Aren't trucks the major cause of pollution on the roadways? Don't they currently have virtually no emissions controls? Meanwhile, there are 5 states where you cannot buy a diesel car (even with so many emissions controls that you can't see the engine through them) because of "pollution issues", yet you can buy a diesel truck... What would the costs of going from zero emissions controls on a diesel car to full (2005/6) emissions controls on a diesel car in one model year? Cars have seen things incrementally.
-j. BTW I seem to recall reading that one truck produces the pollution of 1,000 cars. (This was in an Environmental Impact Statement for a highway project, so they are "official" government numbers recognized by the FHWA)
