Time Machine is nice.  But it is, so far as I can tell, a pretty
front window on a hard-link backup scheme I've been using since
before Time Machine was on the market.

An old, outdated, castoff formerly Windows machine can do a _fine_
job of running Linux or BSD and work as a server.
