I use the same Traveler 15w40 in my 1952 Farmall Super M although I buy it in
2.5 gallon jugs. A year or two ago I had the valve cover off to replace the
gasket, the rockers were all perfectly clean. I attribute that to my use of
high detergent oil. When I first started using it I changed the oil way more
often than was probably required to be sure all the sludge from years of
non-detergent oil got pulled out.
Now I change it every other year. If that machine gets 30 hours a year I'd be
surprised...

I would use 15W50.  It is hard to find around here, so for a
number of years now I have been using Traveler (Tractor Supply
house brand) 15W40 bought in 5 gallon buckets.  Seems to be a
decent oil, and relatively low cost, so I just change it more
often than if it was "real" synthetic.
