I had one in my '85 190D that clattered like it was trying to come apart.
After maybe 1,000 miles with M1 5w40 it quieted down. I was surprised that when
it did quiet down it was all of a sudden. One minute somebody was under the
hood tapping a drum, the next minute he was gone...
