My understanding is that a lot of the R12 replacement is a mixture of propane and butane, thus flammable. I use duracool in my cars which is this propane/butane stuff, it works great and does not require any changes of hoses or oil. There is some debate on the safety, but I figure it is no worse than gasoline under 60psi of pressure.
