The last several sets of Michelin’s I have bought ended up with slipped belts or wearing out faster. I decided to just go with cheap tires. I am currently running a set of GT radials on my 98 which are fine. They are smooth, quite, and have decent traction in normal wet conditions. It torrential downpour not as much, you have to slow down but in those cases you probably would with any tire. They have a 50k warranty.
I had a set of Milestar on the 01 and they were smooth, quiet, and had good traction for about 10k miles. On this car the rear support joints were worn out and it ended up wearing out the right rear tire inner half faster than it should by the 1st rotation. At about the 15k mark I started getting slipped belts. They were completely worn out at 20k. To be fair part of it was the worn out rear support joints but that does not explain the slipper belts. I replaced those with a set of Starfire Solaris something or other from Amazon for $49. Turns out these are made by Cooper in the USA and have a 50k warranty. I only have maybe 3k on them so far but they are smooth, quiet, and have good traction, are cheap, and made in the USA.
