Today, my nephew and I set off in Hildegard to fill her up with Diesel and take a drive to pick up some wings for dinner. The fuel sender actually works! However, the odometer does not, so who knows how many hundreds of thousands of miles are on her? I’m a little unsure if the moderate blow by will improve since the engine could just be worn out. The 710 cap does dance a bit, but doesn’t get blown completely off the engine, and power seems to be respectable. On the 15 mile drive, we got her on the highway for the first time, and it felt great! There’s a miss at idle once warmed up. Shifting doesn’t seem any different although I hooked up the vac line directly from the bleedoff valve to the modulator. Is the vac port on the modulator supposed to swivel? It does make it easier to attach the line. It still shifts extremely late, but not extremely firm unless it’s not at full pedal. It sure is fun to cruise around in this car despite its shifting issues, and alignment is good with no pulling at all, even with the mismatched tires. The brakes work wonderfully! I’m going to have a compression test done to get some solid numbers on the engine’s health, and get the vacuum lines routed as they should be to troubleshoot the shifting situation.
