He might find it a fair bit easier to find a 4Runner which would be about the same in running gear. I had a 95 which is the 2nd generation and apart from rusting, it was fairly decent. The 3rd generation has more power, and more interior space. If he can find one in AZ that might avoid the rust issues.

I had a 70 Hilux back in about 74 and sold it in 75. It was a neat little truck but had a very small cab. Not much legroom.
