Latest flyer from Harbor Freight here shows the sprayer for $160.00. Rental here would cost that much for two days. My money goes for the HF unit. Own it, use it when you want. Done deal.
Airless rigs are the cats meow, IMHO.... the new HF units have pressure regulation, which is REALLY good.. you can turn down the spray and control what you shoot much easier.
