My buddy took his SL to his indy yesterday, who said it needed a new tranny (2-3 shift hanging), I had suggested we do a M1/filter change, indy says it is beyond that (this is the guy who did not tell him the cracked subframe would be replaced by MB, wanted $2k for the job.....sigh). $2500 for a new tranny installed. So buddy calls Rusty who has a rebuilt unit for $1600, a few hundred for someone to replace it is the guess. I told him to hold off on that for now. R, You are definitely on the right track by changing filter and going to M1 ATF. Also, the vacuum modulator can do funny things when the diaphragm is old and stiff (like me). If it looks original, I would change it out. Regards, Jim Friesen Phoenix AZ 79 300SD, 262 K miles 98 ML 320, 141 K miles
