But, they'll _never_ be as robust and 'clean' as a simple metal filament. Consider an EMP. The filament has to actually be heated more than white-hot by the pulse in order to do damage. To do fatal damage to an LED junction, or junctions in any semiconductor devices in its power supply, requires much less energy.
