Not in my experience. I had progressive bifocals. They worked well as long as I was looking through the center of the lens, in other words I was directly facing what I was looking at. If I looked left or right through the lens, things got progressively more distorted the farther off-center I was. Contributing to this may also have been that my prescription is fairly strong, so I had high-index polycarbonate lenses to reduce thickness.
