MBZ discovered that more warranty claims are caused by fools getting dirt
on the dipstick than by leaking transmissions running low on fluid. Not to
mention, in the rare instances that the leak is discovered by checking the
dipstick, you still have a warranty claim for the leaky seal, so the
dipstick didn't really do MBZ any good even then.

Thus, the sealed transmission with no service interval. Eventually they
did specify a service interval, but IIRC it's outside the normal warranty
period, so they'd still want you to leave it sealed until the warranty is
expired.

Anything clean enough to put in your transmission and long enough to hit
the bottom of the transmission pan will work. Fluid level is measured from
the tip of the dipstick, as opposed to most other transmissions where it's
measured from the top of the dipstick tube.

The lock pin in the dipstick tube cap is disposable, so you'll need to buy
spares. Good thing they're cheap.
