I read somewhere (TimeMag??) recently that rural China is essentially run on that basis. All waste is recycled via a rudimentary bio-digester - composter type setups. The waste produces methane used for heating and cooking purposes. A more civilized version could reduce the need for oil / gas in a big way. An interesting idea whose time may well come in America. One would think it would also reduce groundwater pollution in the sense that there would then be less need to treat sewage to prevent groundwater contamination etc. We should all encourage Jim Cathey to get working on that - free fuel to power his generators.
