I wonder if I could plumb a diesel generator to use the same oil I use to heat
the house. I've already got a 250 gallon tank after all and its in the basement
where it stays nice and warm.

Not necessary. With a 25kW set, you will probably have a 100 gallon or larger
base tank - a tank that forms the base under the generator set. That large a
volume of fuel would have to be cold for a long time before it would gel. In
cold climates heat tapes on the fuel lines can be used but aren’t common - the
lines are short and sized accordingly, not to mention they’re inside the
enclosure getting the benefit of the radiant heat coming off the block heater
and block.
