Easy. It’s called a lift pump and a day tank. You would have a small tank at
the generator, say 5-10 gallons depending on the size of the unit and it’s fuel
consumption, and on or next to the tank you would have a small fractional
horsepower pump that would “lift” fuel from your basement tank. The pump at the
day tank is operated by a float switch in the day tank that keeps it filled as
the generator uses fuel from the day tank.

A common setup for diesel systems when the tank is not at the generator. Day
tanks can be anywhere from 10-500 gallons depending on the size of the
generator set and the desired amount of fuel you want available at the unit.
