I don't think they dig that far into them. The guy who called yesterday
said the tech figured it was the CP. That is kinda the lowest level
component if the TCM (called VGS on these units) is bad. It is an
intermittent issue so I think it must be a loose connection, or some
intermittent system failure. I did see one guy posted in some forum
that when he "got on it" it dropped into limp mode, which is exactly
what happened last time I drove it, was shifting fine until I stomped it
and it revved up and I was accelerating. That's why I thought it might
be the SBC nanny telling the tranny nanny to slow down. I did clean the
connector, which is only 4 pins. It was kinda nasty but not too bad,
did not change anything though I had hoped maybe it was that simple.
I might open it up and see what is going on. If it is a solenoid issue
(which does not seem to be the case) then the traces can be repaired on
the conductor plate, but if the TCM is crapped then it is new conductor
plate time as the TCM is integral to the CP. That's like $800-900 and it
has to be reflashed to match the car. I *think* I can do it with the
DAS computer, I have seen something about that procedure but have not
studied it. But maybe there is something loose in there, maybe I can
see it if I drop the CP. If the brake controller solenoid on the CP is
actually bad, which is a code it is throwing I thought might be related
to the SBC, then either changing the solenoid or fixing the trace might
fix it. Fluid refill on these 722.9s are a PITA, there is no dip tube
so you have to pump it up from the bottom with a special fitting on the
drain bung. "Lifetime" fluid doncha know... and that sh*t is not cheap,
some Very Special Fluid.
I am still trying to get this ML320 limp issue sorted after a new CP and
(used) TCM has not cured the issue, it might be the wiring from the TCM
to the CP, everything else is new.
These nannies are making me crazy but it has now become an obsession so
I will persevere.

Can you talk with the service manager (or better yet the tech) and see if
they can offer any insight beyond "replace the conductor plate"? Are there
any service bulletins for this car / transmission that they can give you
copies?

No they fixed the SBC accumulator which is all I said to do. I guess they
must have driven it to check it out.
