Does that work out of state? For example, if you acquired a car in California
and lived in Maine, you would need to
cross a lot of states on the way home. Would the California permit be of any
use in Oklahoma?? I have not done this
sort of thing in years but here in Canada, I used to live in Ontario and buy
some cars in Manitoba. I was able to
get a temporary permit for transport in Manitoba. However the closest town in
Ontario that could provide me with
registration in Ontario was some 30 miles or more into Ontario. The Manitoba
permit did not apply in Ontario and I
always felt I was sort of gambling on that 30 miles into Ontario. Never was
stopped and do not know what the
outcome would have been.

In WA you buy the $20 (might have changed) temporary trip permit and
tape it to the window. If either state offers such a thing I'm sure
you'd be fine.
