Never quite understood, maybe someone here with more paint knowledge than us can tell you. I just know that 040 is a single stage color. There are others, maybe arctic white, but I’m not completely sure.

I’ll do something similar but probably not quite as aggressive on the ML550 roof. I decided to do the paint on the hood this afternoon. The previous owner lived near the shipyard and did construction so the top part of the car has all kinds of crust on the paint. Did a 4 stage paint correction on the hood and it came out incredibly well for a 15yo car. Clay bar, compound buffing, polish and wax. 040 Mercedes black is my favorite color! The rest of the car will look amazing too.
